When was the last time your prayed for your pastor and other leaders in your church?   

The Bible tells us in (2 Thessalonians 3:1) “Brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you.”  Prayer is an act of worship that glorifies God and helps to reinforce our need for Him.  God gave pastors the responsibility to disciple, encourage, comfort and yes correct us when we are wrong.  A pastor is a follower of Jesus Christ who provides spiritual leadership and guidance to members of the local church.  They must rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to preach, teach, impart knowledge of the teachings of the Bible and equip believers to do the work of the ministry by sharing the gospel with all (believers and unbelievers).

Outside of the ministry, pastors are real people with real problems.  They must fulfill the duties and responsibilities to their own families while balancing their lives, and the charge and oversight of their congregations.  Too often, people find fault with the pastor, questioning their decisions or the lack thereof, and get offended when the truth according to the Word of God is given as the basis for their sermon instead of allowing the truth to lead them to repentance and continued spiritual growth.

 

Consider, the change that could occur if believers were actively engaged in lifting our pastors and leaders before the Lord, asking God to fill their broken spirit, giving them knowledge, wisdom and guidance as they lead their families and congregations.  Imagine, the unity and solidarity that could be unleashed in the church if believers are consistently praying and supporting the leadership in the church.

So today, when your heart is likely turned towards the latest development in the news, work, personal needs and responsibilities.  Take a moment to pray for your pastor and the leadership in your church.  Thank the Lord for educating, equipping and empowering them to answer the calling of God to lead, serve and walk blameless before men and women in a fallen world by helping to conform us to the image of Christ.
